The best time of the year…..

The fall is my favorite time of the year. The leaves are turning, my birthday is rapidly approaching and baseball and football overlap. What could be better? I sit here splitting my time between three screens. There is the one displaying the thoughts I am typing so freely, reminding me of my love for words and desire to translate my pen and paper passion into a career. Then there is my work laptop, which always seems to be on. For now at least, it is in the background. Finally, there is the TV, which I glance up at every now and then. Just a few minutes in, the Yankees are already down six runs against the Red Sox. But I am not mad, because they will make the postseason and Boston will not. I hope I didn’t speak too soon!

Apple cider donuts, apple pie, apple everything – it is just extra cushioning for the long, cold winters that come before we know it. I will be in Orlando on Halloween, which I find strange. In New York, it’s usually chilly for the holiday. Costumes are covered and trick or treating is cut short. I will be sipping butterbeer in Hogsmeade and hopping on the Hogwarts Express in Universal Studios, so I might not come face to face with any trick or treaters, but certainly some interesting outfits (that may or may not have been worn regardless of the holiday)!

Woven in between the nail bitting baseball games and the fattening foodie indulgences fall has to offer, there is football. My Jets lost their first game of the season, which they epically deserved due to lack of execution and sheer stupidity on certain plays. Sunday, they play in London. I promised myself I would go to the game, embracing my two true pleasures in one experience: travel and sports. But I talked myself out of it. I was too worried to take off from work during busy season. Or maybe I subconsciously knew that once I got on the plane across the pond, I would never want to leave. I’m not ready to go back. I don’t know if I ever will be knowing I’d have to leave it all behind again and return to my lonely life in the suburbs.
